Non-Cognate Route

Professionals working in construction who hold a degree that is not in a construction-related discipline, or who hold Chartered level membership of another Professional Institute, may apply for membership of the CIOB.

This route is for professionals working in the construction industry with non-cognate qualifications.

For applicants wishing to follow this route there are two entry options:

1) those who hold at least a UK honours degree or equivalent, that is not in a construction-related discipline

or

2) those who hold a current Chartered level membership of another professional institute

All candidates for this route must have at least 5 years' professional level experience in the construction industry.

You would be expected to demonstrate experience in a management role which includes decision making responsibilities for People, Finances, Technology and Health, Safety and Environment.
