Routes to Membership (MCIOB)

Professional Review

The Professional Review is the final stage to gaining the CIOB Chartered qualification. All candidates that successfully complete the Professional Review are then entitled to use the designation MCIOB. Applications for the Professional Review will only be considered from candidates who have met the academic requirements and can demonstrate the relevant experience.

Professional Review candidates will be assessed in the following areas:
Occupational competence, Management competence and Commitment to professionalism

Please note that from the end of May 2012 there will be changes to the Professional Review process.

In most cases the interview will be replaced by competence assessment as part of the application. These FAQs provide more information and the timeline indicates what changes are going to happen when. The new documentation is being prepared and will be available online by 1 May 2012.

If you still have any queries please contact us.

Candidates are required to submit the Professional Review report and supporting documents for assessment.  After successful assessment, candidates are invited for interview for which they are required to prepare and deliver a short oral presentation which is followed by questions from the panel. The interview will be conducted by a panel of Chartered Members or Fellows and will primarily concentrate on the content of the report and presentation, although candidates will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of topical issues surrounding the industry.  The interview result is given on the day.

Candidates who have completed a CIOB approved S/NVQ level 4 or 5 and/or the Professional Development Programme (PDP) are eligible for exemption from the assessment.

Please ensure that you read the Professional Review guidelines before starting your application.
